A field service system for the office and the engineers' phones, built in place of a SaaS licence, with the core live in 15 days
A field service product that does far more than the business needs and charges for all of it, a separate quoting tool, and parts typed as free text on a phone then priced again by hand at the desk: the shape of many contractors. Thor Cooling services, installs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning for businesses, and that was its setup until May 2026, alongside a FileMaker system the team had started building themselves and liked. We took that workflow as the brief and built Thor a JobLogic alternative of its own, a web app on React and Supabase: an office app and an engineer app on one database, in use 15 days after the first brief, with the compliance documents, quoting, Xero and group invoicing grown onto it since. Then the email, the phone system and the website, and next the rebrand and the campaigns to grow on it.

From a licence that did too much to a system of Thor's own, and the brand to grow on it.
Thor Cooling came to us in the spring of 2026 running on JobLogic, a field service product built for every kind of contractor and priced for it, with quotes in TRACQuotes and the engineers' parts typed as free text to be priced again at invoicing. The team had been building a FileMaker system of its own and liked how it worked; what it lacked was a modern interface an engineer could use on a phone. After a requirements call we wrote the data model and six build briefs, and built the system as a web app, React on a Supabase database: customers, sites and assets, jobs in Thor's own numbering, a schedule, costs and invoices for the office, and an engineer app that tracks travel by GPS, records F-Gas on the asset, takes signatures on site and works without a signal.
The customers and sites were in on day three and both apps were in use by 25 May, 15 days after the first brief. The system has grown as the team asked: the Refcom cylinder register and the compliance PDFs in June, Xero and the archived quotes the same month, the tender document in July, group invoicing in August, Mark as Won in November. With the operations in hand, we deployed Thor's new email, phone system and website, and the partnership is now turning to growth: a rebrand and the marketing campaigns the system can support.

How we work together now
One system the office and the engineers run on, the email, phone and website around it, and next the brand and the campaigns that bring Thor its customers.
- 01SystemsThe foundation
The office app and the engineer app, on one database
Customers, sites and assets, jobs in Thor's own numbering, a drag-and-drop schedule, visit costs and invoices, quotes with a tender PDF and Mark as Won, purchase orders, the Refcom register, nine documents generated from the record and Xero connected. On the phone: GPS travel and arrival, a locking risk assessment, F-Gas on the asset, parts, photos, signatures and remote sign-off, offline-first. Built on React and Supabase, and still growing with the team's requests.
- 02MarketingThe growth
The email, the phone, the website, and next the brand
With the operations in hand, we deployed Thor's new email, phone system and website. Now we are planning a rebrand and the marketing campaigns to go with it, as we support Thor's growth on an operational system that can take it.
The pains we set out to solve
A refrigeration and air conditioning contractor's work is one visit at a time: a job comes in, an engineer travels, does the work, records the refrigerant and gets a signature, and the office prices it and invoices it. Thor ran that on JobLogic, a field service product with far more in it than Thor used and a price to match, and quoted in TRACQuotes. Engineers typed the parts they used as free text, so every price was keyed again at the desk; the signature pad had caused oversized captures in the field; and the standard documents, from commissioning sheets to F-Gas reports, were separate forms.
Thor knew what it wanted and had started to build it. A FileMaker system of the team's own had the workflow right, but not the interface: an engineer in a plant room with no signal needs something made for a phone and a thumb. Two systems and a build in progress meant the business was paying for one, maintaining another and still typing things twice.
What we set out to do together
One system, a web app built around how Thor actually works, that replaces JobLogic and TRACQuotes and takes the workflow the team had designed in FileMaker: the customers and their sites, jobs in Thor's own numbering, the schedule, the visit and its costs, the invoice and the accounts, with an engineer app that works where engineers work. Move the customers and sites across, keep the job numbers, and have it in use in days rather than months.
Then let it grow with the business: the compliance documents and the cylinder register, quoting and the tender document, Xero and group invoicing, each added as the team asked. And with the operations in hand, turn to how Thor is found and chosen: the email, the phone, the website, and the brand and campaigns to come.
How the work grew, one piece at a time.
From the office and engineer apps in 15 days, to the compliance documents, quoting and Xero, to the email, phone and website. Scroll to watch Thor Cooling's estate come together.
Thor Cooling's estate in three stages. Foundations: customers, sites and assets, jobs and the schedule, the engineer app with its offline sync. Connect: F-Gas and the Refcom register, the documents generated as PDFs, quotes with the tender document, Xero and group invoicing. Grow: the email, phone and website, the changes asked for from the field, and the rebrand and campaigns we are planning next. Beneath them, the dashboard's active jobs, awaiting invoice and revenue measure all of it and feed back.
The office app, from the first brief to in use in 15 days
A requirements call, then the data model and six build briefs. Customers, sites and assets first, with 255 customers and 1,082 sites imported from JobLogic's export on day three; then jobs in Thor's own SER, INS, MTE and SUP numbering, invoices, purchase orders and the line-items library the office prices visits from. In use by 25 May.
An engineer app that works without a signal and signs the job off on site
Four phases in a week: the briefing and accept, GPS travel and arrival with mileage, the risk assessment that locks, assets edited on site with F-Gas where the refrigerant is, parts, photos and dictation, then one completion form with two signatures or a remote sign-off link, all queued offline and synced on reconnection.
Compliance records on the job, and the documents generated from them
The worksheet, invoice and purchase order first, to a document design system written for Thor. Then the F-Gas report, the Refcom register that follows every cylinder from supplier to van to job, commissioning sheets, maintenance records, fluid chiller reports and the risk assessment, each a PDF from the record.
Quotes, the tender document, Xero and group invoicing
The quotes foundation in May, then Xero connected in June with the old quotes archived beside it, the tender document as a PDF in July and group invoicing in August. A won quote became a job in one click in November.
A new email, phone system and website for the business
With the operations in hand, we deployed Thor's new email, with the team's logins moved to their work addresses in August, a new phone system and a new website, so the business presents the way it now runs.
Changes asked for from the field, built in as they come
A register of each engineer's certificates and method statements with expiry alerts, the sign-off simplified to travel home or next job, the F-Gas reports backfilled from their jobs, customers exported to Excel, and the old quotes taken out of the menu once the history was in.
A rebrand, and the campaigns to grow on the system
Now that the operational system can take the growth, we are planning a rebrand for Thor Cooling and the marketing campaigns that follow it, as we support the business in finding and winning its next customers.
A system the business controls, and a brand to grow on it.
With JobLogic, a change meant waiting for a product's roadmap and paying for features Thor never used. Now, when an engineer or the office spots a better way, it is built into their own system, as the documents register, the simplified sign-off and Mark as Won were. The operations are in hand, and the next pieces are chosen.
- A rebrand for Thor Cooling
- Marketing campaigns on the new brand, email, phone and website
- The team's own requests, built in as they come
